BMW M

BMW M GmbH, previously known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a high-performance division of BMW AG, which produces high-performance machines.
BMW M, "M" for "Motorsport" was originally created to maintain the racing program BMW, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s years. Time passed, BMW M began to Supplement the portfolio of BMW car with a specially modified model with a higher trim, which they are now most known by the General public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to separate them from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMWs private facility at the nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
BMW M also provides m packages for BMW S1000RR motorcycle.

1.1. History. Origin
Established in may 1972 with 35 employees, it grew to 400 employees by 1988, and currently is an integral part of BMWs market presence. The first racing project was BMWs 3.0 TSSL.
After the success of BMW M products like BMW 3.0 CSL in racing venues and the growing market for high-performance sports cars, M introduced cars for sale to the public. The first official m-badged car for sale to the public was the M1, revealed at the Paris motor show in 1978. M1, however, was more of a racecar in domestic trim than an everyday driver. The direction of the m cars changed with the 1979 release of the M535i, which was a high performance version of the popular BMW 5 series mid-size sedan.
In 1993, BMW Motorsport GmbH changed its name to BMW M GmbH.
BMW Motorsport GmbH supplies the 6.1 litre V12 DOHC 48 valve engine that powers the McLaren F1, which, like its engine supplier and manufacturer, has a lot of racing success, famously winning the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1995, the first year the competition for the GTR racing variant.

1.2. History. Recent history. (Новейшая история)
At present, BMW M has offered modified versions of nearly all with the BMW nameplate, except for Z1, 7 series flagship luxury sedan and the X1 compact crossover SUVs. No BMW M version of the 7-series and BMW does not want its flagship sedan with high engine rpm, and as the recent top-performing versions usually have BMW 760Li V12 engines which while powerful are considered too heavy for a sporty offshoot. As unofficial "BMW M7" is the Alpina B7, which is produced on the Assembly line of BMW, though its engine and finishing touches make the auto tuner Alpina. However, as BMW M shifted to turbocharged engines, there are rumors that there is a BMW M7 in the works, and it is speculated that its performance may exceed the BMW 760Li and Alpina B7.
BMW X5 and X6 sport activity vehicles received m derivatives for the 2010 model. This is the first m vehicles with xDrive four-wheel drive and automatic transmission, also the first m-badged SUV models. However, the E70 and E71 X5 and X6 M were actually developed by BMW group, not BMW M.
Although they are considered the most famous in the departments of tuning, BMW M has a considerably different philosophy than Mercedes-AMG. BMW M has emphasized tuning only vehicles with "lateral agility", while AMG has created high-performance versions of many of its nameplates, including flagship sedans and SUVs. Accordingly, "M car should be flexible and fundamentally keen on turning as well as acceleration. M5-s technical spec is all about connecting the driver to the car, which instantly react fast to any request the driver hands." Before the 2010 model year, BMW M has also never used supercharging or turbocharging, unlike Mercedes-AMG or Audi, for instance the E39 and E60 iterations of the BMW M5, using naturally-aspirated engines to compete with the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG with a V8 and Audi RS6 twin-turbo.
BMW M vehicles typically used manuals and semi-automatic transmissions of the latest type, the dual clutch transmission, in contrast to Mercedes-AMG, which are mostly automatic. However, the North American market E36 m3 in sedan and convertible form, was the first M-vehicles offered with a traditional torque Converter automatic transmission.
The BMW M engines were traditionally large displacement naturally aspirated high revving engine, particularly the S85 V10 in the E60 M5 and E63 M6 and the related S65 V8 for the E90 m3. These are the most powerful engines BMW has ever built not including BMWs S70 / 2 naturally aspirated or turbocharged, with a capacity of 100 HP per litre of displacement, and each has won numerous international engine of the year awards. In the early 2000-ies, BMW to consider forced induction supercharged or turbochargers as a low-tech combination to increase horsepower, stating that this adds weight and complexity while reducing throttle response. BMW purists have noted that while forced induction and / or large displacement produces more torque for daily driving, most of them as "character" and sound of low displacement naturally aspirated engines with high corrections.
However, at the end of 2000-ies international regulations trends on reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption are cited as reasons not to continue further development on naturally aspirated engines high Redline. In BMWs N54 twin-turbo inline-6 which debuted in the 2007 BMW 335i E90 gives almost equivalent performance to the E46 and E90 iterations of the BMW M3, at the same time much more practical and economical as a daily driver. Starting with the X5 M and X6 M, and participate in the F10 M5, BMW used the twin-turbocharged S63 which not only produces more power and torque and also more efficient than the S85 V10. Also unlike the S85 and S65 which do not use a design with M BMW engines, the S63 has a significant parts commonality with the base engine 63 V8, which also has double turbocharging, which makes them cheaper to build. In 2012, BMW has not considered supercharging.
As of the 2013 model year, BMW M3 E92 / Е93 only "traditional" m car left, and the rest of the m lineup features turbocharged engines, and the next iteration of the m3 F80 and M4 F82 / F83 with a twin-turbo straight-6 engine.

2. M-auto and M-badged cars. (М-Авто-М под маркой автомобилей)
In addition, the top version of every M model, BMW Motorsport offers" M Sport” M tech / M package in the German upgrades accessories for cars in its lineup. This is one purchase option that exceeds the standards of the sport package includes sportier suspension, sport steering wheel and slide, fully adjustable sports seats, sport wheels and sporty aerodynamic package. Cars with" option M Sport”, not a model vertex m of each series is much more athletic than the stock model.
Means with" M Sport” upgrade is less than "m" badges on wheels, front fenders, wheel, rocker and door sills, and full M cars have a large "m" badges on the grille and / or the trunk, wheels, wheel, rocker and door sills with model number, e.g., "M4" and "M5". Two exceptions are m & m Roadster coupe models, like Z3, Z4 and 1 series of options that only the "M" icon is not displayed on the trunk. However, these cars, a full-fledged M cars.
BMW has offered M the desired sport on their standard vehicles since the late 1970-ies, which explains why those cars with m badges from the factory. For comparison, the car manufacturer Audi also uses the same type of item. A full model S4, S5, S6, S7 and TTS, as well as the optional s-line package which may be equipped with a standard vehicle.
Example of m-badged vehicles in recent times include the E60 BMW 550i and E63 BMW 650i on. The standard BMW 5 series and 6 series only a choice of either manual or automatic transmission, but the sport package M was additional sequential sports gearbox SSG gearbox similar to the SMG M5 and M6 until the 2007 model year.

3. A performance model m. (Модель производительность)
Recently BMW 2012 introduced a new category for M cars, which was branded as the m performance, They are the first m diesel cars that BMW produces.
Today it includes the M550d Touring and saloon variants, the X6 M50d and > X5 m50d which all share a 381 HP 740NM triple turbo diesel engine, only the former LHD car markets at present, due to the four-wheel drive layout in the F10 Series not being compatible with RHD sells the rear-wheel drive press F10 M550d was mentioned by Auto Express but has not been confirmed. According to official data, the M550d xDrive at the 0-to-62 mph in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph limited. The first diesel car M-M135i which is a 320 HP Car 1-series. The M550d is available in both the sedan and Touring chassis, with a ZF 8HP eight-speed sport automatic transmission including auto start / stop function. Manual and non-sport automatic transmission not available. Unique features on the M550d are the two trapezoidal exhaust pipe in dark chrome and both wing mirrors and air intake bars In ferric grey. Other 5 series models have wing mirrors in the color of the rest of the vehicle. Front fog lights, standard on all other F10 / F11 5 series models are removed to make space for additional air intakes. Door thresholds are also unique to this car with the inscription "M550d". In addition, the F11 Touring model features air suspension on the rear axle, with automatic self-leveling.
Nothings been announced as regards the F30 3 Series M performance line up but BMW has a trademark among many other monikers wireless mouse m335, M340 and М350. In addition, the President Friedrich Nitschke has confirmed that the new triple turbo diesel engine will "easily fit" in the F30 engine Bay but did not elaborate any further.

3.1. A performance model m. Exceptions to item. (Исключения к пункту)
In 2010 X5 and X6-based m bore their normal model designations followed by "m" badge X5 M and X6 M. the item had been following the tradition, the vehicle will have an MX5 and MX6 model designation, already used by Mazda.

4.4. Composition. M engines. (Двигатели)
In the late 80s, due to prohibitive taxes for cars above 2.0 liters of engine capacity in Italy and Portugal, BMW decided to build the E30 320is alternatively, a 2.3 l m3. This car was equipped with a shorter stroke S14 engine and produced 192 PS. BMW produced a total of 3648 units between 9 / 1987 11 / 1990 of which a majority of 2542 units were located in two door form, the code name AK95. No catalysts were installed on this limited version. Steering rack, springs, shocks, and brakes were similar to the regular E30 6 cylinder models, ie 325i with sports suspension. The engine was paired with a Getrag 265 five-speed gearbox is a dog-leg configuration.

5. The competition. (Конкурс)
Audis RS models, Mercedes-AMG Mercedes models, and more recently Lexus F model is often considered in direct competition with similar sized BMW M car, such as Lexus IS-F and Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG vs BMW M3.
In contrast to the secondary market tuners, Alpina BMW-currently cars, mostly built by BMW on their production lines and more comfort-oriented. Alpina is a recognized manufacturer of vehicles and works closely with BMW, sometimes participating in the development of the BMW models and engines. Alpina some models even sold in North America and BMW to compete with the BMW M6 Gran Coupé, in the case of Alpina B6 Gran Coupe, or replace them, in the case of the Alpina B7 as there is no M7 version 7-series to compete with the model.
BMW M also faces competition from several independent companies offering their own versions of BMW models, some performance packs can be retrofitted to existing cars while others are applied to new cars, buy directly from BMW AG and converted prior to first registration. Such companies include Hamann Motorsport, Dinan cars, g-power, AC Schnitzer and red.
